Makeup Essentials for the Low Maintenance Girl

Good day ladies! Today, I am writing about one of my favourite topics – makeup!

I have compiled a list of makeup essentials that every girl should have in her makeup bag (unless you prefer not to wear any, in which case more power to you!). If quick-fix makeup is your style, read on:

Why in the world would I start with mascara? Because it is the one product that can make your appearance go from dull to bright in less than thirty seconds. Mascara is an absolute must have when it comes to makeup essentials.

Pro Tip: Buy one that has a lash thickening and curling effect and apply in a zig-zag motion for increased volume. I am currently using ‘They’re real!’ from Benefit and I absolutely adore it. It can burn a hole in your pocket however, so if you are looking for more affordable options, you can check out Nykaa for an extensive collection.

As Mila Kunis said in an episode of That 70’s Show – Chapstick is not Lipstick! Nope, it most certainly is not. Do not use a tinted lip balm and think you are done. If you have been using lip gloss, or worse, lip balm as a substitute for lipstick, you are in for a world of wonder. So many shades, so many textures to try! Lipsticks can be the wow factor in your look, so make sure to add a few to your kitty.

Pro Tip: If bare essentials is your thing, go for two types of shades – one neutral and one bright. Buy a matte neutral shade such as beige, honey or brown depending on your skin tone. When in doubt, always pick a darker colour because lighter nude shades tend to give a washed out look. Buy a bright, glossy shade that you love – pink, red, or anything in between. These two types of shades will have you covered for every occasion.

Having a stick of concealer is far more important than owning a bottle of foundation, in my opinion. While foundation can give your skin a smooth, glowing, but distinctly enhanced look, concealers help do exactly what the name suggests-conceal imperfections. For people who want to look natural but at the same time want to get rid of those zombie-like dark circles, concealer is the way to go.

Pro Tip: Always try a concealer on before you buy it. Getting the shade right is essential to the efficacy of the concealer. Try the product on your inner wrist or neck (or your face, if the tester is hygienically stored). Once you get the shade right, you can buy the product online as well. But for the first time for any product line, try before you buy.

An obvious mention, and one that I believe every girl in the entire country probably uses. It’s the ultimate Indian makeup essential.

Pro Tip: Experiment with different coloured kajal to make your eyes pop.

This product is for people who are trying to expand their makeup horizons. Primer is applied to the face before all other products in order to give a smooth look and to act as a base for other makeup products. However, newbies can use it simply to get a natural matte look and to reduce the appearance of pores and blemishes.

Pro Tip: A little primer generally goes a long way. Do not dab it on like face cream. Dot your face with a tiny amount and then spread.

These products are the basic ingredients to easy, quick, and natural looking makeup. Having these five products in your makeup bag is an absolute must. Buy, experiment, and figure out what works for you!

Shopping is such a wild ride. You see that pretty dress on the mannequin, instantly fall in love, dig out your size from the rack, rush to the fitting room and slip into your prize, feeling like the princess that you were meant to be. But…no, that’s not how it looked on the mannequin…it’s not supposed to be so lose here…or so uncomfortably tight there…it’s the wrong size! You go back to the rack and go up or down a size, enduring the judgy eyes of the store salesgirl, only to find that this one doesn’t fit properly either. Sob. And it’s the same story with the stuff you buy online. It looked so pretty on the model – but just doesn’t fit your body shape the same way!

The bitter truth is that most of us don’t have the

The 90s supermodel era is well and truly over for Indian fashion as Bollywood celebrities rule the roost in terms of popularity and media coverage. What started as a publicity stunt by some designers to create their brands has become something of a norm as nearly every designer now enlists Bollywood stars as showstoppers.
